1. Watercolor Images and Techniques
Greenery
Invitations created with watercolor are available in a wide range of themes, but one top trend for 2018 is botanical designs featuring greenery. For a slightly formal appeal, choose classic laurel wreath designs framing calligraphy. For a more casual appearance, select botanical designs featuring green leaf bouquets and flowing lettering. One of the newest looks includes just a few vivid green sprigs adorning beautiful paper.
The translucent quality of watercolor paints produces soft petals and dreamy blooms. Open petals painted with soft pastels are equally as popular now as flowers painted using vivid, opaque paints.
Another trend to consider is the technique of dipping high quality paper into pale water washes. When dry, these provide softly textured backgrounds for elegant text, using extravagantly elegant calligraphy fonts for the invitation information. This is one technique which is also often used to create simple watercolor washes depicting the sky, the sea or sunsets.

2. Bohemian Style
Bohemian designs are generally eclectic mergings of bold colors and lush designs. The deeper the colors, generally the better. Bohemian styling can incorporate florals, with large blooms or tiny buds, but they will generally be in deep pinks, rich reds, dark purples, vivid blues and intense yellows or oranges…all combined. Extravagant real lace overlays, cutwork paper designs, beautiful embossed or scalloped edging, expensive ribbon closures and metallic foil accents characterize this style of invitation. 3. Striped Nautical Designs
When the wedding will take place on a boat, or near the ocean, a striped nautical design in classic blue and white evokes a jaunty feeling. Classic, yet fun, invitations with white lettering over a blue background set the mood for a fresh air event. Many include images of a rope tied in a knot, symbolizing the couple’s “tying the knot” on their special day.
